It’s Cake Day!
My birthday is on the 22nd. I used to feel a lot of anxiety when my birthday came around. Thankfully, those days have passed, and now I just have anxiety over everything else.
I started to write about it here, but it was getting heavy, y'all. So, I'll just upload it to the blog as a post later in the month. ;)
I'll probably spend the day reading, writing, and whipping up my favourite strawberry sheet cake. It's easy and delicious (yes, it uses a box cheat, don’t come for me cake purists). I usually substitute the oil for melted butter or do half/half.
The funny thing about sheet cake is that you always start out by cutting perfect squares of cake to plate, and then, about halfway through, you're just in the pan with a fork.
This is my go to recipe. Let me know if you have a better one.
What do I want for my birthday this year? Nothing, is always my answer, but I have developed an extreme attachment to Clyde, a Jellycat bag charm, and I think I need it.
You will be mine, Clyde. You will be my Clyde Owens. ;)
June brings along two of my other favourite things: fresh strawberries and peonies. I am obsessed with both of them, and it's a crime that they have such short lifespans. My garden is full of dahlias that will bloom all summer long, but peonies will always rule my heart.
